Creating Safe Spaces with AI Music in English Classrooms

Jun 10, 2026

1:30 PM MST

Online Zoom Presentation

Presentation Summary / Description:

This 50-minute interactive Zoom session explores how AI music tools, rhythm, and creative writing can build safe, supportive English classrooms where learners feel confident expressing themselves and sharing their cultures.

The session begins with a short discussion and video clips exploring how emotion, enjoyment, and creativity support engagement and language retention. It then introduces key ideas around reducing learner anxiety through playful, low-pressure language activities.

Participants will see a live demonstration of MusicHero AI and explore its simple, user-friendly interface. In breakout rooms, they will collaboratively create short group songs or poems using guided prompts, then share and reflect on the experience.

The session concludes with practical classroom applications for CLB 4 learners, including a simple jigsaw-style group song activity based on daily routines and personal experiences. Participants will leave with a ready-to-use lesson structure they can apply immediately in their own classrooms.

Bio:

Andrew Kereliuk is an ESL and LINC instructor based in Alberta with over ten years of experience across multiple educational roles, including educational assistant, child and youth care worker, teacher, and language instructor. Since 2018 he has worked in settlement and post-secondary language programs, focusing on Canadian Language Benchmarks aligned instruction.

Passionate about building safe and caring learning spaces, Andrew helps students feel comfortable expressing themselves and sharing their cultural identities. He integrates AI tools for music generation and rhythm activities, allowing learners to transform simple writing tasks into original poems and songs. This low-anxiety approach improves literacy skills such as sentence structure, vocabulary, and fluency while giving students ownership over both the language and the cultural content they create.
