Let’s Talk About Empowering Adult Newcomers Through Phonics: The NorQuest LINC Phonics Curriculum

Mar 19, 2026

Please join us and guest host Leah Sallis on Thursday, March 19th at 4PM (MST) for an engaging session that highlights the design and purpose of NorQuest College’s LINC Phonics Curriculum—a practical, learner-centered approach created specifically for adult newcomers developing foundational reading skills.

Participants will:

• Gain a comprehensive understanding of how the NorQuest LINC phonics curriculum supports adult newcomers in becoming capable readers.

• Explore the structure and components of the curriculum

• See examples of classroom activities that boost decoding skills, promote student engagement, and align with ESL for ALL outcomes.

Discussion Questions

1. How can phonics instruction in LINC programs be adapted for adult newcomers with diverse literacy backgrounds?

2. What challenges arise when integrating structured phonics into adult EAL classes, and what strategies help address them?

3. How can the LINC phonics curriculum be blended with approaches like task-based learning or settlement-focused content to create a balanced learning experience?

Please email DonnaClarke@Immigrant-Education.ca for the ZOOM link to this session.
