Let’s Talk About Supporting Writing Development in Literacy Classrooms

Please join us and guest host Mariam Rezkalla from Mosaic Newcomer Family Resource Network on Thursday, April 16th, at 4PM (MST) for an engaging, practical session that explores how adult ESL literacy learners develop writing skills, from early copying to more independent writing. This session highlights key stages of writing development across CLB 1–4 and shares classroom approaches that build confidence and support learner program through meaningful, real-life tasks.
Participants will:
- Identify common challenges literacy learners face when developing writing skills.
- Explore the stages of writing development from early copying to greater independence.
- Learn practical strategies to support learners at each stage.
- Review classroom examples using familiar, everyday tasks.
- Explore ways to integrate speaking and spelling activities to strengthen writing and build learner independence.
