ESL/EAL Instructor, Temporary Part-time Afternoons, Writing Class

Job Description:
CCI-LEX is looking for a temporary part-time instructor to start as soon as possible for a writing focused (in-person) class:

• Mondays & Wednesdays, 1:00-3:30 PM
• May-end to August 26, 2026
  

This class aims to develop reading and writing skills for students at the low-intermediate level (~CLB 4-5). Students learn and review the basics of good sentence structure, generate and use creative ideas, and construct effective paragraphs.

Instructors are responsible for selecting materials and content related to the course outline (there is no textbook).

Responsibilities

• Develop, select and prepare instructional materials that will support and enhance students' writing skills following a general curriculum framework
• Present a variety of instructional methods and strategies, appropriate to adult learners and their level of English
• Assess the needs, objectives and progress of students and provide appropriate feedback regarding their strengths, opportunities and overall progress as needed
• Promote cooperation, tolerance and active participation in class
• Maintain appropriate records of class materials, lesson plans, students’ attendance, etc.
• Work as a member of a team of teachers and maintain clear communication with administration
  

What we’re looking for:

• TESL Canada Professional Standard Level One Certification or eligibility for certification
• Recognized post-secondary education (Bachelor's Degree or higher) in Education, Linguistics or a related field
• 3+ years teaching experience with adult English language learners
• Proven lesson planning and assessment skills, as applicable to adult learners; experience teaching writing-focused classes an asset
• Experience working with diverse groups and/or vulnerable populations
