Job Description:
Cultural Connections Institute-The Learning Exchange (CCI-LEX) is recruiting for a temporary Intermediate Instructor (mid-August, 2026 to February 1, 2027). We are looking for a passionate educator to develop and teach a new Intermediate-level course (approximately CLB 6-7). This position is for 30 hours per week in the afternoon and evenings.

What You’ll be Doing:
The LEX Program provides flexible, low-cost English language classes, delivered by a large team of volunteers. The successful candidate will develop lesson plans and materials for a new level of the program, and teach two pilot sections of the course, one in-person and one online. 

  • Develop, select and prepare instructional materials that will support and enhance students' communicative abilities following a general curriculum framework
  • Write clear and detailed lesson plans following a set template
  • Present a variety of instructional methods and strategies, appropriate to adult learners and their level of English
  • Assess the needs, objectives and progress of students and provide appropriate feedback regarding their strengths, opportunities and overall progress as needed
  • Promote cooperation, tolerance and active participation in class
  • Maintain appropriate records of class materials, lesson plans, students’ attendance, etc.
  • Work as a member of a team of teachers and maintain clear communication with administration

What You Bring to the Role:

  • Candidates must have one of the following two qualifications (equivalencies from outside of Canada will be considered):
    o  University degree in Teaching English (e.g. TESL, TEFL, TEAL, or TESOL)
    o  University degree and a certificate or diploma in Teaching English, including practicum     
  • 2+ years teaching experience with adult English language learners (both in-person and online experience preferred)
  • Proven lesson planning and assessment skills, as applicable to adult learners
  • Demonstrated skills in classroom management, building rapport, as well as student engagement and motivation.
  • Experience working with diverse groups and/or vulnerable populations (desired)
  • Appropriate home working environment for teaching online classes

Terms of Work:
Wage
: $30.00/hr
Schedule: 30 hrs/week, including 20 teaching hours and 10 prep time hours.

  1. In-person class (at CCI-LEX school): Monday to Thursday, 1-4 pm
  2. Online class (taught from home): Monday to Thursday, 6-8 pm

CCI-LEX follows an academic schedule and takes a winter break at Christmas/New Year.  This position will have 3 weeks off (unpaid) at that time.

Duration:  mid-August, 2026 to February 1, 2027
